What causes deformed eggs? How to avoid egg deformation
Some laying hen farms often have deformed eggs, but the reason is difficult to find. Generally, consumers will stay away from deformed eggs when buying eggs. So, what causes deformed eggs? How to avoid the appearance of deformed eggs?
If the protein quality is very poor, there is no good foundation for deposition to produce a good shell; the result may be a "wrinkled" egg, which is a typical symptom of certain viral diseases. Deformed eggs may also be due to other reasons.
For example, during the egg formation process, the eggshell will break in the eggshell gland; this damage will be partially repaired, but a bulge will form in the center of the egg (equatorial bulge).
Disturbance to the flock 10-14 hours before the egg is laid will lead to an increase in defective eggs.
There are many factors that affect eggshell quality, most of which are before the egg is laid, such as infectious bronchitis virus, which can cause hens to lay soft/rough shell eggs, light-colored shell eggs, or wrinkles.
In short, there are many reasons for the formation of deformed eggs, such as genetic factors, improper feeding and management, imbalanced feed nutrition, unsuitable chicken house environment, infection with pathogens, etc., which may lead to the production of deformed eggs.
How to avoid the occurrence of deformed eggs?
Farmers should pay attention to the selection of high-quality laying hen breeds, good chicken house environment and feeding methods. At the same time, when preparing laying hen feed, the rational use of organic trace element feed additives and high-purity calcium citrate is essential for laying hen breeding.
Experiments have shown that the calcium retention in the body of chickens after eating a full powder diet containing 3.5% to 4% calcium is only 50%. Since eggshells generally begin to deposit at dusk, chickens cannot get enough calcium supplements at night. This is why the eggshell quality is generally poor when feeding full powder diets for a long time. In response to this situation, calcium powder particles accounting for 1% to 1.5% of the diet can be supplemented after 3 pm, and free feeding [multiple calcium particles are scattered].
